If you do not know history, then you do not know anything. You are a leaf that doesn’t know it is part of a tree.
30 Day Book Challenge- Day 20
There was ONE post in the Maeve Binchey tag and IT’S THE BOOK I BROUGHT WITH ME TODAY! I’m looking forward to reading it even more now after this review!
(For anyone who cares, my favorite romantic book is A Circle of Friends by the same author.)
Favorite romance book:
Scarlet Feather by Maeve Binchey. Maeve Binchey is a bit of an anti-romance writer, in that she tends to write those romances that start as all sparks and fire and souls destined as not such good romances. Her ideal romances tend to spring from friendships. Since this echoes my own experiences, I like her writing very much. I also like how a lot of the time her heroines’ big triumphs are learning to stand on their own two feet and that they have more strength and worth than they realized. I also admit that I like food porn in my books, and given that Cathy and Tom are running a catering company, there is a lot of food in the book.
Scarlet Feather isn’t my favorite Binchey book (it’s #2), but it’s my favorite of her romances, as Tara Road’s happy ending romance is so incidental that it really is kind of a footnote. Scarlet Feather focuses on Tom and Cathy, who start a catering business together. Cathy is married to a fast rising, socially-conscious lawyer who does a lot of human rights work, and Tom is in a long term relationship with a girl who wants to be a model. But aside from the fact that there is no infidelity, one thing I love about Scarlet Feather is that neither Neil nor Marcella (the partners) are ever demonized. I never got to the point where I really wanted to see Cathy leave Neil- as long as Scarlet Feather stayed operational, I wasn’t going to throw the book against the wall. If you’re looking for a story where the OTP is really strong female character/her dreams, this is a good one.

Yep. Now I’m sure of it.
They only give me real work on days when I want to kick back and read.
And I have a Maeve Binchey book from Goodwill today!
But…do they come out eventually? Like…I don’t wanna be sticking stickers in all my books, you know?
I mean, it’s a great idea and I would totally use it on books I didn’t cherish.
But I cherish all my books. =\

Reading Hurts
That moment when you finish a book, look around, and realize that everyone is just carrying on with their lives as though you didn’t just experience emotional trauma at the hands of a paperback.
